VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The 2013-2014 trapping season is upon us.
Please be an ethical trapper and release a large portion of the females and all of the kittens. You can only skin them once and they will only be bigger next year. If you are in doubt, release them. Being greedy this year is only cutting your own throat next year. If you are in a high-pressure area, then finding new locations may be your best bet.
A mountain of money is made and lost every year on fur prep, or the lack thereof. Take the time to make sure your fur is looking as good as it can. Mercer Lawing and Steve Wood both have excellent videos out on putting up cats. It is money well spent. Bringing fur to the sale with blood, scat and burs matted into the fur is the sign of a slob trapper. If you find that offensive, good.
Don’t forget to save all the bobcat jaws to turn in with the transportation tag to get your CITES tag. This is the first year in many that we have been required to do this in AZ. Check the tri-fold trapping regulations for specifics.
If you don’t have some basic survival gear in your trapping rig to get you through a night or three in the woods, please rectify this. To quote Tony Nester “Survival stories are only romantic in retrospect.”
Run hard and stack ’em deep! Your traps and cages don’t catch much stacked in the shed. — Scott Trowbridge
FUR AUCTION MANAGER’S REPORT
Our annual fur auction is February 15th, Saturday. It will be at the Gila County Fairgrounds, just outside of Globe, Arizona. It is the same location where we have had it for the past 20 years. Hope you are having a great trapping season this year. Call or email if you have any questions. — Mike
