PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Trappers,

Well, Turkey day is over, and I hope everyone had plenty to be thankful for. I hope the loved ones that had to travel had a safe and happy trip.

The annual fur sale will be held Feb.15 at the fairgrounds in Russellville, Heath Shaw is the coordinator this year, and can be reached at 501-889-4619.

District 1 will be hosting the spring convention May 10th in Harrison and I am looking forward to meeting new people and having a good turn out.

The River Valley Chapter of District 1, held its Nov. meeting with 38 members present for the Thanksgiving dinner, that had all the fixins. If you left hungry it was your own fault.

With deer season over there will be a lot less people in the woods and it should be a lot quieter. The trappers that I have been talking to all say the fur is prime (coon & beaver) I haven’t heard about the cats thought. I know that I am ready to get started this year.

I hope this gets to you by the 25th, because I want to wish everyone a safe and Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. I also want everyone to remember the reason for the season.

Till next time, hopin’ your traps are full. — Aaron Hitchcock

EDITOR’S REPORT

With trapping season well underway, there’s currently nothing new to report. All of the officers and directors are out there setting traps with the rest of the membership. We are trappers, after all, and this is the time of year we live for and look forward to! There are still district and chapter meetings being held around the State. Call your district representative for more info on area meetings. If you need his number, call one of the officers listed in this column’s heading or check out our website www.arkansastrappers.org.

I’m asked all the time, “What do you do with your furs?” “Where can we sell our furs?” As always, the ATA provides a place for it’s members to sell their furs. This year will be no different:

The Arkansas Trappers Association will hold its 2014 Fur Sale on February 15th, 2014 at the Pope County Fairgrounds, 500 S Knoxville, Russellville, AR 72801.

The annual Fur Sale lot number drawing will be held shortly after January 15th, 2014. Early lot number drawing registration fees of $5 for participation in the drawing will not be refunded or applied to your commission. To reserve your lot number, please send your name and address along with your e-mail and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Customer ID# (Hunting license # if no ID) along with a check or money order for $5 payable to the Arkansas Trappers Association to:

Arkansas Trappers Association

P.O. Box 493

Arkadelphia, AR 71923

If members traveling together need consecutive lot numbers, deposits must be mailed together in one envelope with each person’s information and the preferred order of lot assignments within the group.

Your deposit must be received by Jan 15th, 2014 to be entered in the drawing for reserved lot numbers. You will be notified by post card or e-mail when the lot numbers are drawn. Any entries received after January 15th will be assigned the next available lot number.

Those who wish to wait until the day of the Fur Sale and save $5 will receive lot #s on a first come, first serve basis behind the reserved lot numbers. Remember that participation in the ATA Fur Sale is a benefit of ATA Membership. Your membership must be current as of the day of the sale. Memberships will be available at the sale for your convenience. Questions may be directed to the “ATA Sec/Treas” at secretary@arkansastrappers.org or Fur Sale Coordinator, Heath Shaw @ tage13@yahoo.com or Phone: 501-889-4619.

Call and ask for the Arkansas Trappers Association Rate.

I like to remind trappers to introduce someone new to trapping each year. If the opportunity presents itself, take along a co-worker, a neighbor, one of your kid’s friends, or, heck, anybody that will go with you! You’ll enjoy the company and the help, and they’ll likely appreciate being invited along. Not only will you open their eyes to what trapping is REALLY like, but you may be creating a new trapper or at least an ally into our ranks!

While enjoying the outdoors, please be safe! I want to see ALL of you at our next get-together! The Helms family wants to wish each of you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I’ll see ya here next month! — Gary Helms
