Hello Trappers,

We finally got some rain, we were really were needing it. We didn’t need the tornadoes that came with it though. We had some high winds here in the river valley. One of our neighbors had their trailer house moved about 15 feet and the roof torn off. Lets all pray for the families that were affected and lend a hand in the cleanup when we can.

By this time, the fur sale is over. So I hope everyone had their fur sorted, and graded the way they wanted it. Everyone I have talked was excitedly looking forward to the sale, and hoping for good prices on their fur they worked so hard for.

If you know anyone who is having trouble with their Trapper Magazine subscription, tell them to call me and we will work on it.

District 1 will be holding its next meeting on Saturday, March 2nd in the Van Buren area, the location will be announced by phone or Internet. There will be a couple of prizes drawn for at the meeting. Everyone is invited to attend.

The River Valley Chapter’s meeting will be on Thursday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. Every one is invited to come out and enjoy the fellowship. If you plan to attend bring some pictures of your catch to show.

That’s all I have for now.

The season is just about over with for most of us, although some will stay after the beavers till the end of March. As you read this report, the fur sale has come and gone. However, as I write this, it’s still a couple of weeks away. I’ll post the results of the fur sale here next month.

There’s not much going on right now with the Association, except for the fur sale. Everyone’s busy trying to catch those last few furbearers before the sale. Some of the Districts have been having some monthly meetings. Here in District 7 we had a meeting on Jan. 12th at Grandview WMA. We met at noon after everyone ran their traplines and had a potluck lunch. Along with the beaver stew and deer chili, there were lots of good traditional southern dishes, as well. We had a good meeting, discussed the upcoming fur sale, had a demo on trapline equipment, and signed up four new members! These meetings are occurring all over the State, and I encourage each of you to attend your local District meetings. The best way to learn when and where your next meeting is, visit our website forum at You can also contact any of the officers listed above this report, and get the name and phone number of your District representative.

As this Association continues to grow, we’re gonna get bigger and better than ever! There’s a renewed excitement and energy like nothing I’ve experienced since joining. There are a lot of young new faces in our group with a lot of new ideas, and I, for one, am anxious to see what’s ahead for The Arkansas Trappers Association! I’ll see y’all here next month! — Gary Helms
