EDITOR’S REPORT

As you read this, the Fall convention at Petit Jean has passed. I hope everyone that attended had a great time. There should be a write up on it here next month. However, as I write this, it’s only September 1st. I wish these deadlines were more timely.

The next thing coming up is the NTA Southeast Regional convention October 10-12 at Arkadelphia. It’s shaping up to be a really good show! Here’s the demo list from the NTA website:

FRIDAY – Oct 10, 2014

8am Mark June – Cats

9am Steve Hughes – Beaver

10am Eric Yeatman – Coyote

11am Kennie Prince – Hog

1pm Max Denton – Gray Fox, Bobcat

2pm Eric Cottrell – Turtle

3pm Corie Ferguson – Coyote

4pm Jeff Dunnier – Beaver

SATURDAY, Oct 11TH, 2014

2pm Carliss Stephens – Bobcat/Coon Dagger

The Host Motel is Quality Inn Arkadelphia, 150 Valley St., Caddo Valley, AR 71923

Phone 870-230-1506 Email qualityinn@7seashospitality.com Rate $49.00.

Only primitive camping is available on the grounds. If you require full hookup, you’ll need to stay at the Arkadelphia Campground, which is located about 7 miles (12 minutes) from the fairgrounds — arkadelphiacampground.com.

They’ve also signed up a bunch of vendors for this convention. It’ll be your last chance to pick up supplies and save on shipping before trapping season starts. This should be the biggest Southeast convention yet. You don’t want to miss it!

I gave a full write up on the Workshop last month with all the details. It’s probably booked by now, but if you’re interested in attending and haven’t reserved your spot yet, check with Aaron Hitchcock @

479 -997- 536. Check out our website @ arkansastrappers.org for details.

My tip of the month is tag all of your traps and snares. If you’ve bought new traps this year or made up some new snares, don’t forget to tag them! All traps and snares in Arkansas must have either the trapper’s name and address, their drivers license number, their vehicle license plate number, or customer ID number. Also remember your Trapper Permit from AGFC in addition to your hunting license. It’s free and can be included with your license if you purchase online. If not, you can get one by calling AGFC @ 800-364-GAME, ext. 6333.

Until next time. — Gary Helms

DISTRICT 1 REPORT

We had a very good meeting in Mulberry on August 16 with 28 people attending. Bob Blair caught and fried crappie for the meeting while the rest of the gang brought all the extras to make the meeting a great success. We discussed the upcoming Fall Convention in September as well other business that affects the trapping community. The district signed up one new member and had one member renew their family membership.

Until next time, y’all have fun outdoors and always be safe. — Wayne Watson

DISTRICT 7 REPORT

We had a small turnout at our August meeting, but with summer coming to an end and school starting back up, I expect attendance to increase at our upcoming meetings. The next one is scheduled for October 4th at noon at Millwood State Park. The temps. should be cooler than our June meeting there. We have the pavilion reserved again, and plan on cooking burgers and dogs. Bring along your favorite chips and/or drinks and join us for some good trapping demos and fellowship! There’s also a playground next to us for the kids. For more info, call Brad Townsend @ 870-703-2728. — Gary Helms
