Blind 10-Year-Old Saves Friend From Rabid Raccoon Attack

A legally blind 10-year-old girl from Vermont fended off a rabid raccoon that was attacking her friend .

Piper Rolfe heard her friend Irie Campbell, 11, screaming Sunday while the friends were playing in the woods behind Campbell’s house, according to WCAX TV. Rolfe grabbed a stick and chased away the raccoon.

“‘I didn’t want Irie to get really hurt,” Rolfe said.

Irie was taken to a local hospital and treated for rabies exposure, according to WCAX. She received stitches in her leg and arm, but she was not seriously injured.
