VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Howdy, folks, hope you all are doing well, now that the season is in full swing. Gray foxes are everywhere, clogging up my nuisance lines in town; so I expect that, on the fur lines, these events could be profitable. It looks like the fur sale will move north a bit this year. The building in Red Bluff is twice the place at half the price; that’s too much of a good thing to let pass by. It’s scheduled for about two weeks after the bobcat season closes. More info to follow.

The lawsuit is idling after a fashion; the opposition demanded six months more time for discovery, we declined to agree, and the next court date should be in December. Admittedly, it is hard to come up with exciting updates as lawsuits tend to be flurries of activity with a lot of waiting in between. We lost a member due to our (“my”) inability to send personal thanks to all those who have contributed to our efforts. He lamented that the only communication received was through Trapper & Predator Caller.

I am really sorry that this is the case; truly, it is not for a lack of gratitude for all the help that so many of you, both individuals and organizations, have given to help us in our fight to regain our freedoms. We are operating on a shoestring; most of us are isolated hundreds of miles apart. We don’t have fancy databases and Web sites and all, nor dedicated personnel to attend to such things. I hope that we can change for the better in the future, and that the rewards for all our efforts will be tangible and enduring.

Also, I was told that Jack Garrie out of Calistoga, a long-time CTA member, has passed away due to complications from injuries suffered in a four-wheeler accident. Our heartfelt condolences go out to friends and family. John Clark will be writing more on this matter in the near future. Lastly, it was pointed out that there is a glitch in my e-mail address as printed in the last bunch of Trapper & Predator Caller. They have attended to this, so frustration should be kept to a minimum for anybody that needs to contact me and/or us. Thanks very much, and to all please have a safe time out there.

— James C. Schmerker, Jr.
