PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It’s a very somber time for me while writing this. Marv Miller will have more information in the Vice President’s Report. But my condolence goes out to the Jackson family. The C.T.A. has lost two very close friends and they will be missed dearly. Only in the last couple of years have I gotten to know Lon and Darla, but what two very special people they were. Always ready to help in whatever was asked of them.

The Colorado Trappers Association new Web site is up and running. Stephen Barrington took it upon himself to help us out on this project and he did not fail us. You did a wonderful job Stephen, and until you are better paid, thank you so much. He will keep it updated for us as things become available to him.

The C.T.A. has petitioned the Colorado Division of Wildlife to re-classify seven non-game species to furbearers. Those seven species include the gray fox, prairie swift fox, long and short tailed weasels, western spotted skunk, ringtail cat and the opossum. The petition will be put forth in front of the Wildlife Commission at the March meeting. I will let you all know how it progresses as it comes up.

The Spring Meeting will be held Feb. 1, 2009, at the Lincoln County Events Center in Hugo, Colo. I ask that many of you attend, as there will be many updates at the meeting. I will also be handing out a questionnaire at that meeting to gather a consensus on some upcoming potential issues. And as always, Alan Nall can use as much help as he can get his hands on for the Fur Auction. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

One last note, Dick Hane will continue to be the Raffle Manager for this year. The tickets are at the printers, and we will get them out as soon as possible. Frank Nored has also offered to help Mr. Hane in getting all the tickets sent out. There are some really nice prizes being offered this year, but I won’t spill the beans until you see for yourself.

See ya all at the Auction.

— Otis Latham
