PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Another trapping season underway! There seems to be quite an abundance of beaver and coon this year. I hope you all have been having success on your traplines.

I’ve been quite busy with beaver trapping. Between repeat landowner calls and additional DEP nuisance beaver assistance I have plenty of beaver to trap. There have been a few times that all of my 330’s were set out. I am very grateful for my footholds, I catch at least 50% of my beaver of drowning sets using footholds.

The coon in November was plentiful. The first few weeks of November trapping we bringing in blue coon, but by the third week, the coon were prime.

We had great success in the CTA Premiere Addition of the CTA Alamance. I hope many of you purchased a copy. Many positive comments have been received regarding our first edition. Not only has it become a great trapper’s informational resource but it has also proven to be a useful resource to strengthen our Legal Defense Fund.

We can use help with our next addition of the CTA Almanac. If you have a flare for writing, we can use your stories. Please contact Chris Sanzaro or Danielle Madore if you want to be involved in our next publication.

As many of you know, the Connecticut Trappers Association will be hosting the NTA Northeast Regional Convention in 2011. This will be the first time the CTA has had a NTA convention here in Connecticut! The NTA NE Regional is scheduled for June 3rd – 5th 2011 at the Berlin Fairgrounds.

We need volunteers to assist us in making this a successful event. We can use help from manning the Admission Gate, assistance with the Camping area, and Clean-Up. Please call me at (860) 874-3172 or send me an email at trapper43@hotmail.com to let me know if you are interested in being a volunteer.

This will be a great precedence for Connecticut Fur Trappers, it is time for us to welcome all Northeast trappers to our state and participate in a National Trappers event here in our own state.

Our annual Fur Sale will be scheduled for the later part of March 2011, the official date will be posted in T&PC.

You are all welcome to attend our monthly CTA Executive meetings at the DeKoven House on Washington St, in Middletown. Please call for information regarding our next meeting.

May you plews be prime and your boots stay dry.

Regards.

— Herb Sobanski Jr.
