SECRETARY’S REPORT

Meeting was called to order at 5:00pm Jan 20, 2013. 50/50 was won by Mark Slocum and the trap donated by Howe’s Trapping Supplies was won by John Slocum.

There will be a fur auction at the Pompey Club on March 30, 2013. The IFH Coyote hunt was a success with 40+ entries. Les noted the Trapper Training course being held in McGraw this month is full.

Discussion on new gun control laws out of Albany. Ammo sales are out of this world. Everyone stocking up?

Maple Festival is April 13 and 14th. We will be there. Raffle this year will be another black powder rifle.

Treasurer’s report was accepted as given. Treasurer will pay all bills. Club welcomed Lance Smith to the Club. Lance joined tonight after visiting us last month. Welcome aboard.

Shirley Howe will bring the food for Feb and Russ Bossard will do the demo.

Ray Nolan was given the floor and reported on the NYSTA Board meeting. Ray has filled a big void in our communication gap with the State Organization. Loads of info covered in his presentation, thank you Ray. He covered Fisher management program, Legislation in the works in Albany, Cable restraint bill. Questions were asked and answered. Web site is being worked on to make it more user friendly and more informative. Motion made and carried that Ray be given an honorary membership to the Club for 2013 in appreciation for his keeping us aware of actions by the State.

Les kept the info coming on the Fisher study and the need for us to keep the DEC informed with signs and sightings. Fur prices and sales events are noted in newsletter along with the furbearer of the month. Thanks Les.

Butch noted NRA membership drive going on. Lots of need for their efforts now. Al Martak noted that his Training Course has 38 students signed up.

Russ discussed Muskrats with Ray. Everyone got in discussion and forgot the Secretary didn’t have his hearing aids tonight, so if I missed something let me know next month.

John Slocum noted we have two months to the Maple Festival so let’s inventory our furs and get our ducks in a row for next meeting.

Lance Smith said he had a new experience when his trapped coyote actually lunged at him and tried to bite him.

Bill Howe noted the passing of long time member Paul Loomis. Les had copy of the Obit and gave it to Art to send to the T&PC passing column. Most members knew Paul and all spoke highly of him.

Les Wedge did a demo on what he called “Stuff to make your life easier” Les had a whole bag full of little things with big uses. Thank s Les.

John Slocum has the crock pots going and I for one will not be shy.

Motion to adjourn carried at 7:00pm.

Respectfully submitted. — Art Manz
