Somehow Discovery Channel’s “Yukon Men” slipped under my radar until earlier this week. The reality TV program, which debuted in late August, features residents of Tanana, Alaska, a town of 200 people deep in the remote interior of Alaska. Trapping is a large part of the lives of the people of Tanana, and the show reflects that.
Several of the videos on the show’s website show the stars of the reality show trapping, including this one in which a father and son have trapped a lynx:
Admittedly, I haven’t had a chance to fully digest the series yet, but my initial reaction is that it seems to be really well done and that it shines a good light on trapping. After reading some responses from trappers around the web, it seems most agree that the show is a positive for the trapping community, even if some feel that some of the content is a bit overdramatized.

I enjoy the program. To the point I’ve watched each episode a couple of times. Each aspect of trapping portrayed by the fathers and sons hits home with me. I like the fact the family traditions and devotion is paramount. All in all it’s an enlightening view of trapping without much of the drama seen on a few other “reality” outdoor lifestyle programs.
