First Major Wild Fur Auction of Season Held This Week

The first major wild fur auction of the year concluded earlier this week. Fur Harvesters Auction held the sale on Tuesday.

“Having just concluded our first sale of the season, we were very pleased with our results,” an FHA news release stated. “Our attendance surpassed last January’s numbers, and results on some articles increased over January 2013 as well. This was a pleasant surprise as recent ranch mink auctions have witnessed price drops and clearances of 20 to 30 percent with buyer attendance way down.”

The auction results are below.

In the January 2014 issue of Trapper & Predator Caller, fur market expert Serge Lariviere predicted prices would hold close to what we saw last season. Since then, though, overseas ranch fur sales opened below expectations and the Chinese government has launched investigations into fur sales in the country. Lariviere now anticipates declining fur prices as the auctions open.
