First Montana Wolf Trapping Season Set to Open Saturday

Montana’s first wolf-trapping season ever began last weekend. More than 2,400 people are certified to set out their traps, according to the Revalli Republic.

The state held its first wolf hunting season in 2009, but this is the first opportunity for trappers. Hunters had killed 90 wolves in the archery and gun seasons by late last week. To become certified to trap, hunters must complete a six-hour class that goes over some of the gear, procedures and ethics of trapping.
