Last month, a beaver was accused of starting a Canadian brush fire. Now a raccoon is being blamed for an Iowa barn fire.
Doug Redinbaugh and his son Matt were burning trees that fell on their Iowa property during a recent storm when a 100-year-old barn on the property started on fire, according to a Radio Iowa report.
“Cats near the fire were on the prowl for mice escaping the blaze, and it’s possible, according to Redinbaugh, that a raccoon living in the debris caught on fire and ran to the barn, catching it on fire,” the Radio Iowa story said.
Embers from the burn pile have not been ruled out as a potential cause for the barn fire, but winds were not very strong at the time. The barn and its contents were a complete loss.
