CORRESPONDENCE SECRETARY’S REPORT
I don’t know what we did to deserve such cool weather on the opening day of deer season, but I’m sure everyone was happy to see it! Low temperature in the 40s beats the daylights out of the 60s we usually have. One year, not long back, it was so hot in November I waded the creek bream fishing rather than sit in a deer stand.
It’s not hard to tell when the gray fox family groups are breaking up and the fall shuffle is underway; seems like everywhere you ride you start seeing foxes dead on the roads.
A landowner I’ve trapped beavers for in the past, commented the other day at a local restaurant that he guessed it was too dry for beaver trapping now. He’s certainly right about that. The local paper has the rainfall deficit at seventeen inches for the year!
In thirty short days it will be trapping season. Better get busy getting your stuff ready!
Have a Happy Rut – UH, I mean Thanksgiving!

  1. I am interested in trapping. I have always wanted to start but my busy schedule keeps me out of the woods for a good amount of time I should be slowing down in about nine months. I am hoping someone could help me get started. Thank you for your time.
