PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Greetings and salutations,

The fur season is fast coming to a close. At our first fur sale the winners of our raffles were S. Brown – Idaho for fur consignment; D. Greenough –Wyoming for Dunn Knife; D. Aragon – Wyoming for 2 wolf traps. Our second and last fur sale will be March 9, 2013 in Mountain Home. For more information, go to www.idahotrappersassociation.com . If you have not been to one of our fur auctions, a brief run down on how it works is as follows. You check your fur in either Friday late afternoon, early evening or Saturday between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. You must be a member to sell fur at this auction. You can join at the door. Price of membership without magazine is $15.50. You will be given lot numbers for your fur. You can put a minimum bid on each lot or you can just wait until bids are in and accept or reject the offers. Only high bid will be posted. There will be food, raffles, and usually a few demonstrations. The bids are handed in around 4 p.m. or so. They are entered into the computer which prints out the high bid for each lot. The sheets will then be posted for your acceptance or refusal. The fur then is taken to the buyers, lots not sold will be returned to sellers at this time. You must be present or have a representative present to reject a bid as you must take your fur with you. We no longer hand out checks the day of sale. The buyers checks must settle into our account, checks will be sent out on Wednesday following the sale. This is due to banking regulations. We hope this does not inconvenience anyone as this was a new policy implemented last year. Commissions on sales are as follows: 6% for sold lots, 1% on no sales. I hope that this explains our sale process enough. If it does not, please give Pat a call at 208-599-5009. And speaking of the fur sale, anyone interested in helping with or setting up, please call Pat also. If you are interested in being on the fur sale committee, please talk to me.

We are also forming the banquet committee. I need you to help with this. And speaking of help, The Upper Snake River Trappers of Idaho is hosting the NTA Western Regional Convention this year in Blackfoot. They have asked if we would be willing to help them. I have a few people that have already committed to help. We need more. So if you can help whether it is for a few hours or days please get with me or Michelle 208-587-5931. Let’s go lend them a hand. The ITA will have a booth there also. We will also need volunteers for it. The ITA will not have summer convention outside the NTA Western Regional Convention. We may have general membership meeting. I am looking forward to seeing you all there.

Both the Upper Snake and NTA were instrumental in helping get HJR2 passed last November. Let’s go show our support and help them. This is their fundraiser. It will be a great time to buy your trapping supplies, tell your buddies that are not members to come support this event.

I would like to take this time to ask every trapper in this state to join the National Trappers Association. Every association relies on the number of members it has along with the dues to operate and represent us. We will never know when we will need to make the call. However, rest assured they have answered the call every time we have needed them. They bring their expertise and connections to whatever issue is at hand. They are an invaluable ally. Their website is www.nationaltrappers.com or call them at 866-680-8727. You can also join at the NTA Western in Blackfoot. We are also going to be in for a hard fight on our gun rights. I am asking you to join one of the groups such as the NRA, we must not sit back and let the legislation run over the top of us. There are not many organizations that are fighting for our rights. So please join the ones that are.

We are also getting ready to discuss with Fish and Game new rules, so if you have suggestions or ideas please get with myself or one of the Directors.

The FBU banquet is scheduled for August 17, 2013 at the Red Lion Downtowner in Boise. Please plan to attend. There will be many, many prizes and firearms.

Elections are coming up, with the President and three Directors to be voted upon. I believe the Directors we have had done an outstanding job. I also believe all are going to run again. However, if you are interested in one of these positions, please have your name submitted. All nominees have to be in by March 30, 2013. Please contact Billy Dyer at 208-587-6696 or billydyer@idahotrappersassociation.com with any questions on the elections.

Thank you all for your time. Hopefully we will see you at these upcoming functions.

Sincerely. — Patrick B. Carney
