VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Don’t know where time goes, but June is nearly over. Have had a few weekends camping and fishing. It is so good to see the expression on a young ones face when they catch a fish. It doesn’t seem to matter whether it is big or small.

Hope all has went well for all this far in 2010, but don’t forget to step up and volunteer to help in some way to educate the public in general on the humane and ethical means of fur harvesting. There is always someone who does not understand what the KFHA and fur harvesting does for the wealth and condition of our animals in our state. Mother Nature can be very cruel to our overpopulated animals.

As some activities are over, there are many more to come, so mark your calendars so you may be able to attend some of them. Volunteers are always needed to help make each a success. Remember the national and regional conventions local and state fairs, your state rendezvous as being a member, and any other outing where you may be able to help educate a child or parent on our mission.

As being a member in the District 3 area of our state, on June 12, we had our annual work weekend at Jewell State Fishing Lake. We worked with KS Wildlife and Parks personnel on staining shelter house and picnic tables. What a great time all had. We elders helped with the work project along with the youth and all had some time also to do some fishing. The youth had a fabulous time as the fish were biting most anytime you would throw a hook in the water. District 3 members need to remember Sept. 11 as many volunteers will be needed to help make our North Central Kansas Youth Fair a big success. The businesses are doing their part in sponsoring it, so we as members of District 3, need to do our part.

Everyone needs to mark their calendars for Oct. 1-2-3 as the KFHA State Rendezvous is starting to shape up for another big, fun, and educational weekend. It will be held at the Osborn County Fair Grounds. There are lots of places to pitch a tent, some electric for campers and then motel rooms. In Osborne – Camelot Inn, 785-346-5413.

In Downs – West Lake Inn 785-454-3345.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable summer. Until next time, happy camping.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Earl Asbury since his passing on to the eternal trapline.

— Roger D. Macy
