VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello to all,

As Fall is here with some cooler temperatures and the fall crops are being harvested, it is looking more like fur harvesting season. Some have been training a pup and some have been doing some scouting for signs.

By the time you all read this the rendezvous will be history, youth fairs will be over, and fur harvester education classes will be in full swing. If you are not involved in an education class, you can take a youth out with you in the country while you are scouting and teach them a lot about our great outdoors and what it has to offer. The main thing is teaching them not only animal identification, but the responsible means of obtaining permission on private land. When making your sets in the upcoming season, especially body grip on land, be extremely careful on placement so no danger of non-target catches. We are very fortunate not to have the regulations that some states have.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the auction dates. December 18, 2010 – January 15, 2011 – February 19, 2011. Some things to remember at the auctions are, membership card is to be presented at registration with no excuses, bundle your fur, no more than five single bobcat, and volunteer some of your time at the tables to help move the furs. Don’t expect just a few members to do all the work. The doors will open at 7:00 a.m. for setup and the auction will start at 9:00 a.m. at Steryl Hall in Abilene. Your lot numbers can be reserved starting 30 days prior to the first auction (November 18) by calling Roger or Donna at 785-346-2076. Please call between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. as we will not be carrying the books to work with us. There will be a $10.00 deposit to reserve your lot per auction and our address is – 609 Market St., Portis, KS 67474
Until next time, have a safe and enjoyable fall.

— Roger D. Macy
