DISTRICT 12/13 REPORT

District 12 and 13 held our monthly meeting on February 15. There were 15 head in attendance, including 3 or 4 new ones. Always great to see new faces and hear from new folks! Topics discussed included our catches, crazy weather and tides, and of course, the fur market and prices. We discussed selling options and prices, including the NAFA buyer’s MD route, and the upcoming Groenwald pickup at Ron Leggett’s in mid March. Tommy talked about the upcoming FBU Banquet on March 26, to be held at Bowles Farms in Clements, and he provided flyers for folks to post.

After we ate (and it’s ALWAYS about the food), we held our 50:50 raffle. I probably shouldn’t even have to type this, but Travis won. Again. I’m starting to think our District ought to bankroll him for a quick trip to Vegas. Then items donated by members were raffled off, and the proceeds went back to the District. Items included lure, shells, trapline tools, knives, and other things.

District 12/13 meets every month from October through April, on the third Tuesday, 6:30 pm, at Director Marty Campbell’s home in Owings. Our next one will be March 15. Please join us, or your local district, and see what’s going on. District and meeting info can be found on the MFT website, http://www.marylandtrappers.com, under both Contact and Event headings.

Hopefully, this winter’s horrible weather will finally break soon. With trapping winding down, it’s time to start thinking about fishing and spring turkey seaon. Make it a point to get a kid out there with you this coming spring.
