DISTRICT 8 REPORT

Jamie Elburn and Roger Ringgold worked the Jr Hunter Day near Sudlersville, Md on June 1st. This is a yearly great opportunity for the youth to learn what outdoor activities are available to them in Maryland. We represented the Maryland Fur Trappers. Also represented were the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Sudlersville Skeet Club, Maryland Bow Hunter Society, National Wild Turkey Federation, Sport Dog, and the Maryland Dept of Natural Resources. Ninety three young hunter were educated. We signed up eleven Jr member for a free one year membership to Maryland Fur Trappers. Recruitment is one of our major hangups. Events like this sure help.

I had surgery on my thumb, so with sick leave time on my hands, I jumped at the opportunity to travel to Gilbert, Pa for the three day Pa. Trappers 76th State Rendezvous. It rained two of the three days, but the trappers still came. Plenty of dealers, tailgaters and lots of old friends to chat with. It does not get much better than that.

Maryland’s Convention is Aug 23rd and 24th at Fairplay, Md in Washington County. With no admission fee and free primitive camping, this is a great opportunity for a family outing – quality time. Bring your raffle stubs and money plus your donation for our state auction and head on down. Crab feast Friday night, live trapline everyday and all the trapping supplies you could want. Make sure to stay for the membership meeting with our elections for officers. Help us determine our direction for the next two years.
