DISTRICT 8 REPORT
Another good meeting with seven trappers and three wives. We are all really enjoying these meeting. NTA cash calenders were offered again. Several MFT membership blanks were handed out.
We welcomed John Dent to our group.
We discussed our fund raiser of us members donating one fur apiece. We will bring them in to the December meeting. They will be sold to our local buyer with the proceeds to go to our treasury.
Our December meeting will be held the third Tuesday, the 18th, due to our normal date being on Christmas. Sorry, I should have been on top of this in time to put it in last months column.
The NAFA pick up date was discussed and there is a new place to meet the NAFA truck this year. Their clearance of most of their furs was talked about.
A couple of past members had been seen and we discussed good times we had with them. One has a young son and has plans to get active next year.
Roger had a couple of calls from people looking for trappers in their area. I referred them on to trappers I knew would do their best for them. Some of those calls are very rewarding.
We had much discussion on how our trapping season was going and talked a good bit about fox trapping especially, different staking systems, locations, different model traps, total catches per farm, mange and a host of other items.
Jamie has located a red fox with a white head. He plans on going after him after Christmas. We all wish him well.
The current deer season was discussed along with the blue tongue disease which has hit our area especially hard this year. Big bucks are in short supply this year and maybe for the next year or two.
Dist 8 meets the fourth Tuesday at 7:00 PM during trapping season at the home of Robert Calloway. He lives at 14313 Cherry Lane, near Tuckahoe State Park, between Centreville, Md and Ridgely, Md. Call Bob at 410-634-2501 for further directions. — Roger Ringgold, 410-634-2552, firstname.lastname@example.org
DISTRICT 12/13 REPORT
We held our November meeting on Tuesday the 20th, and had 16 members in attendance. Once again, possible venue changes for the 2013 FBU banquet were discussed, as the Bowles Farm facility will not be available for next spring’s event. A few weeks into our season, and it seems like coyotes are starting to make their presence known a little more often here in southern Maryland. Sightings and catches have becoming more and more common the last few years. I guess with them slowly moving in from north, south, and west, it was only a matter of time. Pat gave us the Treasurer’s report after the raffle of donated items and the 50:50 were held. Marty won the 50:50. Afterwards, Wes shared some pictures and video of his recent trip to Maine, where he caught a BIG black bear! One more thing I’ve added to my “to do, someday” list!
With the holidays fast approaching, please make it a point to take a youngster or two out with you on the line. Christmas break is a great time to get them afield. Heck, maybe if you have one really interested, you could arrange for them to find a couple traps under their tree come Christmas morning!
District 12/13 holds monthy meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, October through April, at Director Marty Campbell’s Owings, MD home. Check and see when and where your local district meets and try to make it to the next meeting. Information about District meetings and other things are available on MFT’s website, http://www.marylandtrappers.com. — Dave Sien
