DISTRICT 1 REPORT

Happy New Year Trappers,

I’m keeping this report short as we’re getting ready for the BOD meeting and Legal Defense Banquet in Askov. We just learned we won’t be attending the general meeting as there has been a death in the family and we have a funeral to attend.

It looks like we will have our spring meeting March 9 in Cotton at 10:00, I’ll send out postcards with an agenda in advance. Also I’ll be looking for volunteers to help build marten nesting boxes sometime in Feb., give me a call if you would like to help. We’ll build 100 boxes, divide them up, and hopefully get them put out before spring. With the DNR’s concerns over declining populations maybe our nesting box project can help reverse this trend. The Canadian trappers really believe the placement of nesting boxes helped increase marten populations in their areas.

The big Canadian auctions are coming up real soon and from the scattered reports I’ve been hearing from trappers selling to the country buyers, the prices they’ve received have been very good.

Hopefully the auction houses will have another good year. I promised I’d keep this short so until next time, keep trapping and above all stay safe.— Bert

DISTRICT 4 REPORT

Greetings District 4,

I hope you’re all having a good season. By the time you read this, we will be on the verge of the first major auctions. Good luck to all.

It is also the time of year for DNR public hearings. Make sure you attend for two reasons: It is your chance to find out what is happening and for you to voice your opinion.

Last but not least, have a safe and happy New Year.

Till next time. — Buzz

DISTRICT 5 REPORT

Hello, everyone. We still need more volunteers for the 2013 MTA Convention in Litchfield, August 16th – 18th. I will also have a sign up sheet at the District 5 winter/spring meeting at Johnson Fur, on February 2nd, they will also be having their customer appreciation day. Doors open at 8 a.m., meeting will begin around 10:30. There will be rolls and coffee in the morning as well as a lunch . Jason Smith will be doing fur handling demos. Scott will be buying fur also. I will be sending postcard reminders out in mid January, bring these with you for a chance for traps. If anyone is interested in doing a demo at the summer convention in Litchfield, give me a call. If anyone has any tanned fur to donate to the Tanned Fur Project, you can bring it to the meeting and Jerry or I will make sure it gets to Tim Caven. Take care. — Pete

DISTRICT 7 REPORT

Hello, fellow trappers. We have started to plan the District 7 Spring meeting in Dovray at the Log Cabin Restaurant. The doors open at 9am. The meeting and raffle will begin at 10am. Lunch will be served about 12. At 12:30, we will be relocating to the ADM Shop where the Skinning Bee will be going on. Please remember the fur that is put up that day will be donated to the Tanned Fur Project. Please plan to help out. If you know someone who would like to learn how to put up fur, bring them along it will be a good opportunity for them. Bring your skinning & fleshing equipment, your thawed animals to be put up and your knowledge to help others. If you are just getting started to put up your fur, there will be plenty of people there to help you learn. Anyone is welcome. Jason Wiebke will also be buying fur, so bring any fur along that you would like to sell. Also, you can bring your spouse. Painted Prairie Vineyard, north of Dovray will also be hosting a wine tasting that afternoon, while the Skinning Bee is going on. Anyone that would like to go along is welcome. Please notify Angie Cohrs at 507-227-3490 if you interested in going. The winery would like an estimated head count.

This report is being turned in just before the winter meeting. Watch for the reports in the next issue to get updates of what went on. Until next time. — Leon Windschitl
