PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hi guys,

Sorry I didn’t get a report in last month’s issue. The NTA Convention must have had something to do with that.

I’m looking forward to the MTA Annual Rendezvous, Sept. 16-17 at Chillicothe. I know Robbie, Larry and Karl have a lot of activities planned. There are a lot of camping sites and motels there we can use. If you have questions, call one of these guys to help.

We also have several clinics scheduled across the state. If you would like to help with one of these clinics or come as a student, please call these folks.

VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable summer. I know it’s sure been hot here in Central Missouri. At the time of this writing the National Trappers Association Convention is now over in Columbia. My hat goes off to Rick Friedrich for a job well done for his hard work and dedication in coordinating the event. A lot of planning and hard work goes into putting on one of these conventions. This experience is nothing new to Rick.

He coordinated the first one back in 1998, again in 2004, and again this year in 2011. A big thank you is also in order to all of those who volunteered their time and some of their own money in helping Rick pull off this event. The names of all the people who volunteered are too many to mention. So out of fear to forget mention anyone, you know who you are, and we know who you are. So again, thank you.

Karl Rice and District 8 has pretty much everything in order for the upcoming MTA Fall Rendezvous. This years Fall Rendezvous will be held in Chillicothe, Missouri at Jenkins Center on September 16, 17, and 18th. The Jenkins Center is located on Highway 190, one mile west of US Highway 65. Be sure check out the Mountain Man Newsletter and the MTA website at www.missouritrappersassociation.org for the tentative schedule of all of the events. For information or questions, call Karl Rice at (660) 646-6607 or me at (660) 888-2369.

There will be several trapping clinics held all over the state this fall. Make sure to take the time to attend one of these clinics and bring some youngsters along. Most of these clinics are two day events which covers all aspects of trapping and running an actual running trapline. District 1 will be having a Trapping Clinic at the Atlanta Conservation Area in Atlanta, Missouri on October 8th and 9th.

For more information, contact Jennifer Pantry at (660) 341-1945. District 2 will be having a clinic on October 22nd and 23rd at the Whetstone Creek Conservation Area in Williamsburg, Missouri. Call Matt Spurgeon at (573) 864-3559 for more information. District 3 will be having a Beginners Trapping Clinic near Bland, Missouri at the Prairie Star Restoration Farm on October 22nd and 23rd. Contact Clay McDaniel at (573) 368-7564.

On October 1st, at the Robert Talbot Conservation Area, District 5 will have a clinic in Lawrence County. Contact Andy Barnes for information at (417) 895-4586. District 6 Trapping Clinic will be held in Versailles, Missouri September 10th on Route E. Contact Jim Holeman at (573) 378-9005. District 7 will have their clinic again this year at the Swan Lake Wildlife Refuge in Sumner, Missouri on October 15th and 16th. Contact Keith Donaldson for information at (660) 527-9379. District 8 will have their clinic in conjunction with the 2011 Fall Rendezvous in Chillicothe on September 17th from 10:00am until 12:00. For more information, contact Karl Rice at (660) 646-6607 or myself at (660) 888-2369. These are all of the clinics that I know of at this time.

You can keep updated by looking into the Conservationist Magazine, the Trapper and Predator Caller, or the MTA website at www.missouritrappersassociaion.org. I look forward to seeing you at the clinics and the Fall Rendezvous. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

— Robbie Page
