DIRECTOR’S REPORT

JUNE

Well the big news is that the fish & game commission has tentatively approved a wolf trapping season in Montana. The tentative part means we are in the playoffs but have not won yet. There will be 60 days of public comment before the final vote. The anti’s were out in force at the commission hearing and can be expected to be to be even more vocal and mobilized now. They realize that the commission endorsing a wolf season is a huge blow to their efforts to end trapping in our state. It boils down to science and reality on our side and emotion on theirs. Shame on us if we let them out number us or show more passion than we do. Please, everybody do your part by attending meetings and testifying and/or offering logical and factual written comments to the board. In other news, we will be reaching a significant number of people, including school age children, at the Family forestry Expo. this coming weekend (5/12/12) with our trapping education station. The station is always well received as the folks get to see and touch fur and trapping equipment and have their questions answered. — Rick Hawk

JULY

Well this has been a busy spring for our group. The annual Family forestry Expo had great turnout with nice weather and a great reception. It looks like we may be there the whole week next year, not just on the weekend. What a way to reach a massive number of interested 5th graders with open minds. Don also presented at the Flathead Kennel club on trapping and pet safety/ release. This was very well received and Don thinks some attitudes may have been adjusted. Our next Trapper Ed. class will be 8/10 & 11/12 . Friday will be 6-9 p.m. at F&G on Meridian. Saturday will be 9-4 at the Trap Club. Our summer picnic will be on 8/18/12 at a location to be announced. By then we should have a wolf trapping season with lots to discuss. See you there. — Rick Hawk
