PRESIDENT’S REPORT

This year’s rendezvous was enjoyable for me. The familiar faces I see every year have become friends and it’s always nice to catch up. I was surprised, humbled and honored to be inducted into the MTA Hall of Fame during the banquet Saturday night. The other individuals in the Hall of Fame have contributed so much to protect trapping and trappers over the past 36 years and I am proud to be carrying the torch forward from their hard work and dedication. None of the things we have accomplished as an association over the past year would have been possible without the contributions from MTA members during the previous 35 years!

The work I have done for the association has been shared by so many people that sometimes it is hard to accept accolades for a job well done. It was great to see others within our association acknowledged for their contributions and I am sure those individuals are listed in this newsletter. Bob and Terry Sheppard, Jason Maxwell, Angela Gerych, Brian Stoner, Keven Heinle, and Harold Johnson all received deserving awards for going above and beyond for the MTA.

Additionally, the MTA received National recognition by the NTA as the Affiliate of the year. Trappers Bob Sheppard and Paul Fielder were also acknowledged by the President of the NTA for their con-tributions as expert witnesses in the Lynx Lawsuit filed by animal rights activists. It is great to see the Montana Trappers Association getting well deserved national recognition for its involvement in protecting our natural resources through trapping. The MTA is making a difference not only in Montana but across the nation. — Toby Walrath
