PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello everyone,

Hope everyone is well. I am writing this the end of February. When you receive the Trapper, it will be near the end of March or beaver/rat season.

I’ve been hearing that the latest auction went well.

For those who haven’t heard, a dog let off leash to run was caught in a snare and died in a walking hunting area near Scottsbluff/Gering. The trapper had trap tags and was legal. According to Sam Wilson, this land is privately owned, leased by Game and Parks. The only usage in the contract is walking, hunting and trapping. The newspaper said the trap was 20 feet off the walking trail and baited with meat. Sam says no walking trail and was not baited. No matter, the dog owner’s uncle stated in the Star Herald of Gering that he wanted to see no trapping on all public use areas, maybe altogether. Sam Wilson thinks that Trapping may be added to hunting on the Game and Parks entrance sign, hopefully that might be all, but it could be trouble for us.

Sam said he would be at Broken Bow for the spring meeting on April 14th. He may be able to give more information at that time along with his bobcat/otter reports.

I signed up a couple new members, which we need. The climate might be good right now to sign up new members, there seems to be some increased interest.

See you at Broken Bow on April 14th. — Don

  1. I am a proud member of the Nebraska Fur Harvesters and look forward to my Trapper and Predator Caller magazines, but I recieved a notice from the magazine recently that my subscription had expired. I don’t understand this because I thought my subscription came with my membership. Do I need to resubscribe or ignore this notice? Thank you and keep up the good work.
