ASSOCIATION REPORT

The NHTA met on Oct. 6 for a monthly director’s meeting. All members are welcome to attend this meeting, which is held in Boscawen in the basement of the big church at the intersection of Routes 3 and 4. The meeting is held the first Tuesday of each month, except November. There is not a monthly meeting in November.

Director Steve Bennett is still working out the details for the next annual fundraiser banquet. It will be held in Concord again this year in February. Tickets will be available through directors by December. If you have an auction item to donate or would like to volunteer to assist or just want to thank Steve for his outstanding effort, he can be reached at 603-736-8096.

The Annual NHTA Fur Sale will be held this year on Jan. 16, 2009, in the town of Springfield. Clerk Bill Anderson is looking into securing the fire station or town hall. Doors always open at 7 in the morning. A vendor will be available for coffee and doughnuts. Deer hides are not to be brought indoors. Furs to be shipped will be accepted by dealers after the completion of the auction. The Association will collect donation of fisher skins for the coat that is donated to the Miss NH Pageant winner. Any other fur donations will be accepted for fundraisers/education kits.

The NH Fish and Game Department and the University of NH have combined funds to support a four-year doctoral study on the bobcat population in NH. The study will begin this November and will focus on the Keene/Monadanock region. The Association is quite interested in this study and has offered its support to both agencies.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed for great trapping conditions and good luck to all of you.

Best to all.

— Paul DeBow
