By the time you read this we will be well into the archery season here. I can’t wait for the first day the temps are below 70 it should be game on. Everything is going well for NJFH. Depending on when you get this we will have had a meeting at the Tuckerton Decoy Show Sept 29 and 30. Don’t forget if you want to get someone new into trapping, the courses in the 3rd week of October are the ones to take. There will be one in the central region (Bordentown area) and one in the north (Hacketstown), Please check the Fish and Wildlife site or call them for more info. We can also help you so call or email Ron or me and we will get you started.
Plans are being set for the Convention at Atsion Recreation Area Sunday November 4th. Last year the convention was pretty busy because we try to squeeze a ton of stuff into the day. From trapping demos put on by experienced trappers, to door prize drawings , to the auction of all kinds of stuff – you gotta see it to believe it. Our vendors were top notch last year and we hope to repeat that, so if you have stuff you want to sell new or used, trapping related or not let us know and we will happily make arrangements for you. My favorite last year was the stand that had homemade pies and cakes along with some very uniquely decorated stretcher boards. We also have plenty of trapping supplies provided by several vendors, from box traps to snares, stretchers, scents and lures , it will all be there with plenty of time before the season. There really is something for everyone (there is even a playground) so bring the wife and the kids – we need to generate interest for the next generation.
Please read the game laws before you go out and abide by them. It is really important to put our best foot forward. Know the areas you will trap, get permission when necessary, don’t leave trash or any unsightly messes in the woods for others to find and be respectful of others – choose your spots wisely, we are in a very densely populated state with great opportunities. As always NJFH is looking for volunteers (we won’t take much of your time), submissions for newsletters and the website (njfurharvesters.com) so make it a goal to submit something to us this year just once and you will see a new NJFH developing. Remember YOU are the organization.
Please remember to vote ( or get registered if you are now of age or haven’t done so in the past). Just like You are NJFH – You are the future of this Great Land. Get out and vote.
See you at the convention. — Andy Janson
