PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Greetings everyone! I have a short but important report for this month.

1. A few proclamation changes for this season include an increase in the fisher harvest quota from 10 to 15; the lion harvest quota from 14 to 21; and the colony/funnel traps will have a size restriction of 12” maximum opening and 36” maximum length. As you may remember from a few months ago, that proposal was an 8” opening. We worked hard with the folks at Game and Fish and thankfully that opening size was moved to 12”. There have been a few changes to the language on some rules, mostly to clarify things or clean up gray areas. It’s important to read the regulations every year so you don’t miss anything – this year would be no different.

2. The muskrat float research project is still on line to begin this fall. RJ Miller will be conducting the project mostly in the eastern part of the state – chasing the water and the muskrats until ice up. The field work will begin again in the spring after ice out.

3. This month is a busy month with education classes and the rendezvous. There will be more to report in the next issue.

4. Thanks to those who took the time to volunteer for the state fair. It was another record year in attendance and weather. I appreciate you taking the time to share your knowledge with the public.

Remember to keep your membership current. If you don’t, you won’t have a clue as to what’s going on. Until next time, take care and be safe.

Catch ‘ya. — Rick Tischaefer
