SECRETARY’S REPORT

The trapping season is now in full swing. The weather so far has been cooperating. Usually we have rain that never stops and the streams go up and down so fast that it is impossible to keep up with. So, knock on wood it has been a pretty good start.

We had a meeting on the 19th of October and it was a good meeting. We had reports on our convention. The report was a good one. From the final tally on everything we had an excellent turnout. Ken Mills said that we are on the books for our convention at the fair grounds for next year, again the 3rd Weekend of the month, Sept. 14-15, 2012.

We had two applicants for our scholarships that we give away to those members whose college majors are in the study of natural resources or subjects that pertain to conservation of these natural resources. The applicants are Lauren Davison and Mark Martin. The membership approved a $300 scholarship for each of the applicants.

It was voted on that we buy 150 NTA handbooks so that they can be given out at the trapper’s education courses.

The trapper’s dinner will be either on the 25th of February. The price will be the same as last year, $12.00 each for trapper and 1 guest, $15.00 for each additional guest.

It was voted on and passed that we donate to the following organizations: $75 to the St. James Lutheran Church for allowing us to use their church for a meeting place. $100 to the Northland Sportsman Club for them allowing us to meet in their building; $200 to the Salvation Army, $1000 to NTA on behalf of the donors who gave items for our convention, $100.00 to Fur Takers, $1000.00 to United States Sportsmans Alliance, $1500.00 to the MTA Legal Defense Fund, and also to renew the Fur-Fish-Game subscriptions to the 20 High School libraries that we donate to. We will also be renewing our affiliation to NTA.

The DNR meeting that was to be held at Higgins Lake was cancelled, so Mark Spencer could not find out about getting a waiver for those who trap any of the critters that need to be tagged by the DNR so that they can get them mounted by a taxidermist.

WE have a new lifetime member and his name is Dale Smith, Jr. Thanks for your confidence in our organization.

I hope every one has a safe season this year and remember to read your rule book before you go out into the bush. — Jim Neitling
