I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am sitting here next to the wood stove writing this due to it being below zero out. It is colder than a well diggers ass in the Klondike. I sure would not want to be caught outside today with out a good warm coat. I say this because I have some traps to check. I do not think that the critters are that foolish to be out on a day like this, you can only hope.
The wolf hunt has produced only 22 wolves that have been killed. I have the feeling that if the trappers would have been allowed to take wolves the quota would have been met a long time ago. Maybe that was the reason that we could not trap them. Could it be that we are more efficient than just hunting?
There is a petition to counteract the one that is being passed around by the antis. This measure will be on the November election if enough signatures are received before the deadline. I do not know what that is at the moment. If you are asked to sign a petition make sure you read it before you sign your name so that you are signing the right petition.
Do not forget about the Annual Trapper’s Dinner on February 22nd. The cost will be $12 each for 1 trapper and 1 guest. Additional guests will be $15 each. There will be a social hour from 6pm to 7pm and dinner will be at 7pm. If you want anything to drink that is stronger than coffee or pop you will have to bring it with you. The dinner will be at Rudyard Township hall, next to the fire station on Mackinaw Trail. Mark should receive your money by Feb 14.
The next meeting will be January 15, 2014 at Northland Sportsmans Club in Gaylord at 7:30 pm.
Hope to see you at a meeting or the dinner. — Jim Neitling
