SECRETARY’S REPORT

Finally it has stopped raining and has turned to snow. Actually this is a relief from all the water, now we have ice. This makes setting for land critters a real challenge. This will test all of one’s knowledge of keeping the sets from freezing into the water that has accumulated in the bush. Especially in the clay areas and that is pretty much my entire area. Always a new challenge.

Deer season is also upon us. I have not seen one four legged critter since the season has started. I guess I am not the only one. Slim pickens this year so far. We still have bow and muzzle season to go through yet.

The report on the wolf hunt so far has been only 11 wolves taken so far. The DNR seems to be hush hush on this subject so far.

Some of the trappers have reported that rising and falling of the water levels have made the water trapping a real challenge this year.

I have heard nothing so far about what everyone is selling their fur for. The only thing I have read is the reports that are published in the Trapper and Predator Caller and it is the same one that you guys read.

Today is the start of the fisher and marten season. Since we can only catch one of the critters I hope it fully prime and that you get top dollar for your efforts.

A reminder for our annual trapper’s dinner on February 22nd. The cost will be $12 each for 1 trapper and 1 guest. Additional guests will be $15 each. There will be a social hour from 6pm to 7pm and dinner will be at 7pm. If you want anything to drink that is stronger than coffee or pop you will have to bring it with you. The dinner will be at Rudyard Township hall, next to the fire station on Mackinaw Trail. Mark should receive your money by Feb 14.

I have some bad news for those of you that knew Bob Keiper. He was a long time member who has walked on. He now joins the rest of the great ones who are in the great beyond.

Hope to see some of you at the dinner in February and I hope everyone is having a great and safe season so far. I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Merry Christmas and that your Christmas stockings are full of what you want or do not want. — Jim Neitling
