Trapping season has finally come to an end and now it is time to put your gear away in preparation for the next season. I know you should check out the equipment before you put it away but it is easier than done. I know with me it is. This is the time of year to move onto bigger and better things, like putting up firewood for next winter.
We had a meeting on March 21st in Rudyard. The dates for Adopt-A-Highway were set. April 17th, July 17th, Sept. 12th. We meet at the store at M80 and I75 (exit 378) at 6:30pm. It was decided to pay our dues of $1000 to the Sportsman’s Alliance. There is a House Bill 5403 coming up and it is to introduce an animal abuse registry. I suggest that you write your state rep. and have him put something in this bill to protect hunting, fishing and trapping rights. The election of officers is coming up for the president and secretary and 3 directors. I think it is about time that we get new blood into the leadership of this organization. If you have noticed, our older membership is declining.
I have to report some more sad news about one of our members. Andy Holmes has passed on to the greatest trapping area that there ever was. Andy was a man of many accomplishments. He was devoted to the great outdoors. In 2001 he received the Mark W. Spencer Lifetime Achievement Award. He will be missed.
The next meeting will be Wed. May 16 at 7:30 pm at the Northland Sportsman’s Club in Gaylord. Then Wed. July 18 at 7:30 pm at St. James Lutheran Church in Rudyard.
We had our first Adopt-A-Highway pickup on April 17th and we had a good turn out. We had a new face this time instead of the usual crew. I would like to thank everyone who helped pick up other people’s trash.
We will be hosting our convention in September and it will be September 14th and the 15th and the set up day will be on the 13th. If you would like to reserve a booth space, contact Ken Mills. If you would like to put on a demo you can contact Lloyd White. Any prize donations can be sent to Jim Neitling. All addresses and phone numbers are above.
There is not really much to report right now due to not much going on. I hope to see some of you guys at the upcoming conventions. — Jim Neitling
