PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello To All from Southern Oklahoma

Well the March sale has come and gone. It was the biggest sale the OFBA has had since the organizations merged. We had 138 Sellers and sold $133,200 worth of fur. There were some that didn’t sell but most all did sell. John, Bill and Shannon thought that to get the sale over before 10 or 11 PM, they cut back to 10 lots per seller but there were several that had a lot of fur that needed more tags where they could split their lots in good and not so good fur. It would be better for seller and buyer, as the smaller buyers could not bid on the larger lots.

I cannot Thank all of sellers and buyers for being patient with us in getting it done. All were happy with the fur and prices.

If anybody has any suggestions that would make things better for the organization feel free to bring it up at the meetings and help implement it as this is your organization.

The Okemah facility is a lot nicer than the facilities we have had in the past. Everything should go smoother now that we have used the building .

I want to Thank the youth that carried the furs all day , They are Christopher Ponder,Bower Kimber, Nicholas Ponder, Jacob Ponder, Kiefer,Ponder,Ethan Barker, Kyler Damron, and Barron Bishop.

We had a directors meeting on April 19 and those present were Gene and Cloyce Callaway, Shannon and Cathy Sheffert, BJ and Janice Johnson, Monte and Margie Dodson, Darrell Woodward, Leo Farmer and Vivan Scott. Cathy took the minutes as John was unable to be attend.

We discussed the workshop to be held at Gentry Creek May 31 thru June 2

We set dates for the following events:

Fall Meeting —–Oct 13,2013——Okemah

Youth Camp —–Dec.20-21-22,2013—-Verden

Fur Sale———–Feb 1,2014———-Chandler

Fur Sale ———-March 1,2014——- Okemah

There weren’t enough directors present to do much.

The Spring Meeting April 20 started at 8:00 AM with Leo Farmer doing a fox demo. Business meeting followed, we only had 50 or 60 people attending. The secretary and treasurers report were read and accepted. Darrell Woodward gave a NTA report, we only have 52 NTA membersout of 386 OFBA members. All OFBA need to join NTA as they do so much for Oklahoma trappers. If the membership does not get involved we may loose some of our rights to trap as we do and be like a few other states that are loosing their right to trap as they would like to.

Matt Yoakum did a double dirt hole set, RC Edgar did a skunk essence removal and beaver tail lure making demo. BJ and Noel did a demo on live trapping of bobcats, Shannon skinned a few animals, not sure how many. Thanks Guys. By that time most had left but BJ, Tracy, Leo, Noel, Scott Newby and a few others(bad memory-senior moment) helped clean up , I really appreciate all the help.

The rifle was won by a young lady Jayme Holt of Perry ,OK. The raccoon board with trap tags attached was won by RC Edgar. Matt did a great job on the auction, RC Edgar donated a Slick Skunk Dispatcher System, Charles Spring donated 3 traps and Craig O’Gorman in Montana donated a $25 gift certificate with a catalog plus other items donated by members.

We have more issues with anti’s, they want to put the fox on the endangered species list after the Wildlife Dept does a study. Also the Wildlife Dept. wants suggestions as to what the membership or trappers wants changed on the regulations. Maybe we can get some changes if enough put in their 2 cents. Shannon didn’t want to send out papers like the wildlife dept. put out at the meeting for the members to fill out, but if you would send up to 5 suggestions on trapping changes to Darrell Woodward, PO Box 580416, Tulsa, OK 74158 before May 15, 2013. He will see that the Wildlife Dept. gets them. The more people responding the better our chances to get things changed.

We will be having a Trapper’s Workshop on May 31 thru June 2 at Gentry Creek on Lake Eufaula. The map is on the message board thanks to Clifton for those who have never been there or forgotten how to get there. We will be having some demo’s and fellowship and food. Be sure to bring a side dish or dessert for Sat as we will have pulled pork.

Also we need all to volunteer or ask someone to be an officer or director as all offices need someone, the election is coming up in Oct at the meeting . We need new people to take these positions.

We attended the T-Man meting in Miami. Clifton, Darrell, Dallas, Scott Newby and several others from Oklahoma were there. We picked up the traps that Dallas modified and dyed and waxed for the youth camp. Cletus and his helpers did a great job with the meeting, all pitched in. Good demo’s and fellowship, Also we met the man that won the 243 rifle last year .

Take a youth out into the outdoors and teach them to fish , hunt or trap.

God Bless All. — Gene Callaway
