PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello Oklahoma,

Just a couple quick notes before our Fall meeting to be held in Okmulgee on Oct. 17. We will be holding the meeting at the fairgrounds building on the north side of town just to the west of the junction of US-75 and the SH-56 highway loop to the casinos. The doors will open at 8 for coffee and doughnuts and then the demos will start. It sounds like we will have representatives there from North American Fur Auctions doing fur handling demos, trapping set demos from Oklahoma and Arkansas trappers, youth events and last but not least great food and fellowship. Trapping supply dealers will be on site to sell lure and supplies and this will save you money and postage. Please mail in or better yet, bring your ballot for the elections and bylaw changes.

For more information, please see our Web site, oktrapper.com. Reginald Murray has revamped the site and there is a lot of good information about what is happening around the state. Please try to bring a covered dish to the meeting for lunch. Also we will be holding a fundraising auction so if you have anything that you can spare, please bring a donation.

And last but not least, Tom Peterson is still working on the memory boards that have our trap tags on a stretcher. Right now, he has enough to cover a weasel stretcher, but lets try to bring in enough to put on a ’coon stretcher or better yet lets cover a coyote stretcher. Please bring in (or mail to Tom or I) three (3) trap tags from your traps, old or new it doesn’t matter, and if you can bring some from our old members also.

We held a board of directors meeting on Sept. 12 where we discussed upcoming events and want to present an idea of holding two fur sales this winter. We propose to have an eastern sale in Okemah on Feb. 27 and then a second sale in western Oklahoma at El Reno on March 6, 2010. More to come later.

Hope you all have a good bow season, enjoy some fantastic fall fishing under the changing leaves of fall and get ready of the best time of the year, furbearer season this winter. Remember this year, it runs from Dec. 1 until Feb. 28! Hope prices are up, but mainly remember, take a friend or a kid with you and let them experience the wonderful times that we get to enjoy.

Thanks.

— Shannon Sheffert
