PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all managing to stay cool this summer, it has been a hot one so far. You have probably already received the newsletter informing you of the extended trapping season. This is an unreal opportunity for us after 32 years of having to settle for just a 2 month season, we have finally got it back to where it was originally. Our legislators are seeing the advantages of trapping as a way to manage predators. With this extra time we have been given also comes the responsibility of using our heads and lots of common sense. Just because we can legally trap in December now doesn’t mean we should be going out and stringing steel any and everywhere we choose. Please think about where you set these traps.

The trappers in the upstate don’t have to worry as much about deer hounds as us in the lower part of the state. Personally I had rather wait till later to set up some land if it means avoiding catching those deer hounds. It won’t matter that we have written permission, legal right to be there, and the landowners blessing to some of the owners of these dogs. This is an unbelievable privilege we have been given so lets not go and spoil it. Remember it can be taken away from us. We have set the time for our annual convention in Little Mountain for Sat. November 6th 2010, mark it on your calenders and plan to be there. Check the newsletter for the name of your Representative and Senator that voted for this bill and give them a call to thank them for their support.

Until next time.

— Ricky Williams
