PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Greetings,

I hope everyone has been having a good trapping season. I know many across the state haven’t had nearly the luck they have in the past, and many are looking forward to a busy spring season (at least I know I am). I really am enjoying the Newell area and the variety it has to offer.

There hasn’t been a lot going on in the SDTA as of yet, but our busy season for legislation will be coming up. We are monitoring the session for any issues relating to trapping that may come up. Please watch the current issues page on the website for anything that may arise.

As you are all likely aware, we had quite a turnover of directors in September. We are still working on the transition process of getting everything switched over so that everything operates as smoothly or even smoother than it did before. We are now using an electronic method to keep track of our memberships which will allow us to easily pull up your membership if you have any questions, and allow us to more rapidly contact you if anything comes up. Gary has been doing a wonderful job of getting this all in order and taking over many of John’s duties. In addition to working on divvying out all of the duties, we were also busy setting up for our fall raffle, gun shows, and the stock show. In addition to those fundraisers, we are also raffling off a queen size coyote comforter for our 50th anniversary this year.

I would like to thank all of those who helped out at our gun shows across the state, and all of those who helped out at the stock show. The stock show is a 9 day event that allows us access to thousands of individuals. It is a great opportunity to educate the public and answer trapping questions along with allowing us to introduce furs and trapping to school children on field trips.

We do have some upcoming events and I look forward to seeing many of you there. Our spring convention is May 4th (most likely in Howard, although I cannot confirm that at this time), and our 50th Anniversary Fall Convention will be September 13th and 14th in Huron, SD. Please mark your calendars so you don’t miss these fun-filled educational events. — Anna Hermanson
