Hello Tennessee Trappers,
At the time of writing this report, the TFTA summer meet on July 18, 2009, that will be held at Cumberland Mountain State Park has not yet been held. Look for the results in the next issue of the Trapper & Predator Caller Magazine.
TFTA FALL MEET: Will be held at Montgomery Bell State Park on Oct. 24, 2009, at 9 a.m. CDT. This meeting will be held at a shelter rain or shine. There will be signs pointing the way in the park. Everyone invited. This meeting will be a pot-luck-type luncheon, so bring a covered dish if possible. Coffee and cold drinks will be provided by the TFTA at no cost. Please bring a donation item for our fundraising auction if possible.
We will be having some trapping and snaring demos also. Look for more information and directions on this fall meet in next issue of Trapper & Predator Caller or visit www.TennesseeFreeTrappers.com.
Directions: From Nashville I-40 West to exit 182 (Fairview/Dickson Hwy. 96 Exit). Turn left (west) onto Hwy. 96. Stay on Hwy. 96 until it dead ends at Hwy. 70. Turn right (east) on Hwy. 70, off-ramp provided. Stay on Hwy. 70 for approximately 3 miles. The park entrance is on the right.
Coming up this October will be an election year.
Now is not too soon to be thinking about who the officers of the TFTA will be for the years 2009 to 2011. Please consider nominating any TFTA member for one or more of the officer positions (before doing so, please ask them first to see if they would be willing to run for that office). Officers are elected for a term of two years by the membership at the annual fall meeting. The membership shall elect a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, state organizer, membership secretary and public relations/trapper education spokesman.
This year, the election committee chairman is Pat Pangle, 821 E. Big Richland Creek Rd, Waverly, TN 37101; phone 931-296-3446. The committee members are Clarence Dies, 34 Locke 5 Rd, Lebanon, TN 37087; phone 615-449-4412; and Roger Seward, 90 G & S Rock Ranch Road, Camden, TN 38320; phone: 731-584-3200. Beginning July 24, 2009, you can begin making nominations. All nominations must be made before Sept 12, 2009.
The New TFTA officers will be announced at the fall convention at Montgomery Bell State Park this October.
As the TFTA bylaws state, an election committee will be formed consisting of members who are not currently an officer of the association. Article VI of the bylaws states that “prior to the election, members in good standing shall make nominations for the officers of the association.” Nominations can be made beginning three months before the annual fall meeting up until six weeks before the annual fall meeting. Nominations can be either mailed in writing or by a phone call to one of the members of the election committee.
Once a nomination has been made to the election committee, it is the responsibility of the election committee to contact the nominee for their acceptance of the nomination. After acceptance of the nomination, the election commission will then notify the election committee chairman so that the name can be entered on the ballot.
Once all the nominations have been received, a ballot shall be prepared by the election committee chairman for mailing, no earlier than one month prior to the annual fall meeting. Voting members can choose to either bring their ballot in person to the annual fall meeting. One official ballot and envelope shall be mailed to each member who has paid his/ her dues or return it by mail to the election committee chairman.
Voting members can choose to either bring their ballot in person to the annual fall meeting or return it by mail to the election committee chairman. At the annual fall meeting, the ballots will be opened and counted in the presence of the general membership. The new officers will be announced at the fall meeting and will begin to serve their term.
TFTA members should begin thinking about the 2010 TWRA Setting of the season’s meeting. Contact TFTA officers and directors. Let your officers know what you think needs to be included in any correspondence to the commissioners regarding any changes in regards to trapping and the TFTA will once again compose a letter to all of the TWRA board members and commissioners.
This meeting is usually held in June, however a preliminary meeting is usually held in April. Your concerns should be addressed to the TFTA president and directors at your earliest convenience.
I look forward to seeing you at the fall meeting.
— Mike Renfro
