Season will be under way in just a few weeks, and I hope everyone has a great season, and be sure to be safe out there.
On the fur market to get an idea of what your fur might be worth be sure to call as many fur buyers as possible as most of them will have up to date information from auction houses or their contacts. They do a good job in the magazines of putting information about fur prices out to us, but of course you have to keep in mind most of that information is at least a month old when you read it, and that can make a big difference in the fur market as it can and does change weekly.
Speaking of fur prices, our Fur Sale dates and places have been set. All fur sales will begin about 8am in the time zone they are scheduled in. Our first Sale will be in Crossville at the Cumberland County Community Complex (same as previous years) on January 28th. Second Fur Sale will be in Bulls Gap on February 18th at the VFW Bldg and the 3rd Fur Sale will be in South Pittsburg on March 10th providing the building is available. Trappers from Georgia and Alabama are urged to come to help your own State Association as the commission will be split.
I hope everyone that attended our convention had a great time. I want to thank everyone for all the work you do, the Smiths, the Lady Fur Harvesters (Mrs Holland, Ms Stinnett, Mrs McMillian and of course the Smiths) I apologize for forgetting some but your efforts are not forgotten and Thank you all so much. It’s folks like you that make up the back bone of our Association and that keep TFHA going. Of course the Directors and Officers deserve a big thank you for helping everything run as smooth as possible. The weather was a little cool at night but for trappers it was just right to get your blood pumping for season to get here. I personally can’t wait to get started.
Actually, I will have already made a trapping trip to Wisconsin by the time this report comes out, and with not getting to trap last year due to our little girl being born I can’t wait to get out there again. First I want to congratulate the award recipients at this years convention. Jr Trapper of the Year went to Chance Antczak, Trapper of the Year to Paul Antczak, Lady Furharvester of the Year went to Laurie Dennis, Director of the Year went to Wendell Reeves, and for the Hall of Fame for 2011 we have two inductees, Gene Gagstatter and Greg Webb. Congratulations everyone and we all appreciate everything you have done and still do to help TFHA.
Laura Smith will now be taking over the Treasurer and Membership Secretary position and her information will be listed in the next months issue as we have a 30 day overlap period to help with the transition when a position is changed. As the President and Vice Presidents position was run un opposed myself, and John Daniel remain as President and Vice President.
Y’all have a safe season and we will see ya at the fur sales. If anyone needs to get in contact with me there are numerous ways, email at email@example.com, 731-614-2531, or through the website at www.tfhaonline.net.
I also need some help reaching a member, Ronald Mitchell from Madisonville Tn if you can contact me I would appreciate it. We need to straighten out an address error; or if anyone knows Ron if you can pass this onto him I would appreciate it.
