SECRETARY’S REPORT

Hey all you Trappers!

This year we are going to put a spin on things for our convention. Many of you know that the UTA has been around for a “long time” but do any of you actually know when the UTA started? Well this year as officers we would like to show the members of the UTA how it all came about. Take you back to the time of the first Fur Sale, the first Convention, and the first Campout. We will have pictures and memories to share, along with old and new trapping strategies for the upcoming season

To start off, the tentative date for the convention will be September 6th-8th, 2013 at the fairgrounds in Nephi, Utah. Everyone is welcome to come. Nephi is a really nice town. There are several hotels to stay at; some of them include the Safari Motel and Best Western. If you would like to camp out there are spots at the fairgrounds as well.

Friday, September 6th we will be having our Hamburger Social. This is a great event for all of the trappers to come together, catch up and make fun memories. Dinner will start at 6:00 pm and will be provided by the UTA. Keep in mind that the UTA officers will be cooking dinner. This may be a once in a life time event to see them wearing an apron, let alone cooking, so make sure you stop by to check it out. Later in the evening, after dark we will be playing a movie outside on the grass. This year’s movie will be Fox and the Hound. Last year was pretty cold so make sure you bring some blankets and chairs, popcorn will be provided.

We have great vendors coming this year, not to mention great demo’s as well. There will be many contests going on for all. Some of them include: Speed Trap Setting, Photo and Calling Contest. As well as a BBG Gun shoot for the kids and a Fry Pan Toss for the ladies. Prizes will be given to those who place in the top three. There will also be a silent auction, bucket raffles, and crafts for the ladies that will be going on all day Saturday.

Saturday evening we will be having our annual dinner and live auction. This is a fun event for everyone! If you have anything that you would like to have auctioned off, or even like to donate feel free to bring it. For additional information regarding the live auction you can contact any of the UTA officers. Dinner that evening will be pot luck. So bring your favorite dish to share with the trappers. Like last year our general raffle will be drawn during the banquet dinner. If anyone needs any additional raffle tickets please contact a UTA officer. We will have raffle tickets to sell at the convention as well. Sunday will just be a cleanup day. No events or contests will be going on.

On a side note we are putting together a book of the UTA that we will have at the convention for members to look at and possibly even buy. The book will have stories, pictures and history of the UTA. If any of you have a story you would like to put in or pictures to share please contact, Amber or Mike at the address listed. We would LOVE to have feedback on this!

We hope to see you at the convention!

Until next time. — Amber Child
