SECRETARY’S REPORT

Hey all you Trappers,

By the time you read this the convention will already be over, and the trapping season will be well on its way. The convention was great! There were countless trapping stories told. It seemed to me that every time I turned around I would see trappers exchanging stories and strategies. In next month’s article I will fill you in about the convention and all of the things that went on. But because of all of the trapping stories told at the convention I thought I would share with you one of my first trapping memory.

I was about six years old and my dad took my brother Cody and I up the canyon to check some sets. As we drove through the canyon I was so excited. Next thing I knew we were getting out of the truck and hiking to this set. As we came up to the set my dad could see that he had caught something… It was a fox in a foot trap. I was so excited that we had caught something! Because the fox was in a foot trap my dad made my brother and I set on a rock while he went to go shoot it. As my dad fumbled through his stuff he realized he had left the gun in the truck. O no… He then told us kids that we could go with him back to the truck or stay put while he ran back really quick. Now don’t worry you could see the truck from where we were, he didn’t leave us in the middle of nowhere. As my dad ventured back to the truck Cody and I stayed put on that rock until the fox started to move around. As Cody and I watched the fox in fear of him escaping and coming after us, we were getting a little scared. Then the fox stared to really fight that trap to get out, as a little six year old girl this scared the day lights out of me. Needless to say I ran back to the truck in tears yelling dad the entire way. Every time I pass that area in the canyon I think of that memory.

I wish you the best of luck with this upcoming trapping season.

Until Next Time. — Amber Bassett
