Video: Chicago Uses Coyotes to Control Pests

Call it a case of reverse predator hunting.

The city of Chicago has a rodent problem. When human measures failed, the city turned to one of the best rodent hunters in the world: the coyote. According to this article, the animals pose no threat to humans.

According to city officials, the “timid” coyotes pose no harm to people,
as the animals actually shy away from humans. Mice and rats are not so
lucky, however. Coyotes apparently enjoy running through Chicago city
streets in search of a rodent-based meal.

As this video shows, the coyotes go where they please.

Opponents to the plan say releasing cats would be a better idea, and that coyotes are known to attack pets. However, city officials aren’t looking to change tactics any time soon.
