Our last of the year meeting was held on September 24th at the Spotsylvania Izaak Walton League site. We had sixteen members and guests in attendance. A special thanks to Ed and Charlaine Crebbs for giving up their Saturday to bring the VTA trailer loaded with traps and fur to display. We had a lot of interest in the displays from Dog Mart attendees and local Boy Scout and USMC ROTC troops.

President Steve Colvin attended and brought us up to date on VTA news. General Organizer Glen Mabe attended to assist with the trapping demos. Glen conducted a land snaring demo and I conducted beaver bodygrip and foothold sets demos. The demos weren’t as well attended as I hoped but we were competing with dogs and puppies. My invite to Senator Edd Houck was successful. Senator Houck and I had some time to discuss the Fredericksburg trapping prohibition on the watershed property. He committed to helping us with the City Council impasse. He has a strong record of outdoor sportsman support and asks that we consider voting for him in the upcoming election.
During the meeting we accepted nominations and held election for a new District Director. The required 30-day election pre-announcement was met by direct mailing to all district members. Blanche Conley was nominated and seconded for the position. After confirmation of quorum presence with eight members in attendance, a vote was taken. By a unanimous vote of the members, Blanche was elected for the position. Upon acceptance, Blanche was confirmed as the new District Director effective September 27, 2011. Congratulations Blanche!
Since the deadline for this report was only a few of days after Blanche’s confirmation, I told her I would send this report to announce her as the new Director and say farewell. I’ve enjoyed the last three years as director and a member of the Board of Directors however my travel schedule makes it too difficult to continue. I look forward to being an active district member and continued work for the Association where needed.
