Our fall convention was a huge success. Attendance was the best in years. Thank you to everyone who helped put it together. Also thanks to all who did the demos.
Our Gun raffle and grubstake cleared $2241.00 after expenses.
The big winners were Ron Miller of Rapid City who won the WSDFHA engraved Henry rifle and Riley Graham of Lusk Wyoming winning the Fox Pro digital call.
Our Association bought the meat and buns for the meal. After the donations it cost WSDFHA $238.00.
Newly elected directors are Brad Tisdall of Rapid City, Billy Morrow of Hot Springs and Shoun (Bummer) Simons of Enning. Marvin (Tuffy) Halls was re-elected as sec/treas.
The board of directors met immediately after the convention clean up. We were pleased with the city building and the New Underwood location and voted to have the 2013 spring convention there also. We chose the first Sunday in May which will be May 5th, so mark your calendar.
Among the many topics discussed by the board was encouraging all fur harvesters to join and support WSDFHA. We encourage all game callers, hound hunters and trappers to become members.
Another BOD meeting was held on 10/21/12 in Rapid City. We had a very productive meeting.
We decided to have our booth again at the “Northern Plains Outdoor Expo”. The dates are February 8-10, 2013. If you can help in the booth any of those days please let me know. We will distribute fur harvesting and trapping handouts and visit with hundreds of people. It’s a great place to meet potential new WSDFHA members too.
We agreed to do another gun raffle to help with fund raising in 2013. We will be raffling a Henry “Golden Boy” 22 rifle this time. The gun stock will be laser engraved again with our logo and a different animal than last years. The badger was cool but we will do something different this time.
We have gotten the rifle and will be having it engraved soon. Tickets will remain five dollars. We will kick off ticket sales at the Outdoor Expo in February.
Joe Bowden and Billy Morrow will co-chair the grubstake solicitations for 2013. Jeremiah Heath will help them also.
Joe Bowden agreed to become the new “youth trapper education” coordinator. Billy Morrow will assist Joe.
New director Brad Tisdall is in somewhat of a new capacity as the “hound hunting coordinator”. Brad is a member of several hound groups and is an avid fur harvester.
We were approached by the “Nation Trappers Association” and ask to help with a gun raffle fund raiser for 2013. This is a nationwide effort to raise funds to counter the anti-fur groups. The directors cast a unanimous vote to support the NTA and sponsor one gun.
Webmaster Jim Halls gave a report on our website. Jim discussed our connection with face book and possibly posting some of our convention demos on the site.
It was a very productive meeting with lots of discussion.
We set the next BOD meeting for January 6th.
My self, Tuffy Halls and Brad Tisdall attended the SD GF&P commissioners meeting at Deadwood on October 4th. We each gave testimony in support of raising the mountain harvest quota.
Hope your trapping and hunting goes well the winter. — Larry Bowden

I was at the SDSTA annual meeting in Parker SD last month. I received a phone call from my good friend George Kortum informing me of the passing of Marvin Fluth. As many of you know Marvin and his brother Melvin owned M&M Fur in Bridgewater SD for many years. Marvin was a very nice person and will be missed by all of us who knew and did business with him. On behalf of all the members of the WSDFHA I would like to extend our condolences to his family.
We still need more pictures of your fur harvesting experiences. If you have any please get a hold of Jim and he will post them on our website. If you have never visited our website please do.
Thanks and until next time. — Tuffy Halls
