PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Greeting from Hot Springs,

By the time you receive this another trapping season will be mostly behind us except for a little spring activity. I hope you had a productive and enjoyable season.

WSDFHA will have had our booth for the second year at the “Northern Plains Outdoor Expo” in Rapid City. The show dates were February 8-10. It is a great place to meet people and make them aware of our organization. We always pick up some new members and visit with old friends.

Our 2013 gun Raffle tickets are being printed. The Henry “Golden Boy” 22 rifles stock has been engraved. This years gun will have WSDFHA logo and a snarling mountain loin engraved on it. The board of directors agreed to keep ticket prices at $5 each. Tickets are available from any director or mailed to you by request. They can be picked up at the spring convention also. The raffle drawing will be at the fall convention. This will be a very good fundraiser for our organization.

The New Underwood community center will be the location for the spring and fall conventions this year. The building has been reserved and deposits paid. The spring convention date is Sunday May 5th. The fall convention will be Sunday September 8th. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.

There are a couple of house bills presented to the state legislature recently that pertain to trapping.

House Bill # 1147 would transfer the administration and supervision of all trapping statutes and rules to the Department of Agriculture from the Department of Game, Fish and Parks.

House Bill # 1146 would prohibit private trapping by conservation officers and certain Game, Fish and Parks employees.

At the time of this publication WSDFHA has no official opinion on these issues. We do need to research and discuss both issues. I would like to get any members thoughts about both bills. Please e-mail me with your opinion.

I plan to publish and mail a WSDFHA annual newsletter this spring to all members. Not all our members take one of the trapping magazines with these monthly reports or have access to our website. We want to keep all members informed of our activities and fur harvesting issues.

Sincerely. — Larry W. Bowden
