VICE PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Hello SCTA trappers

I want to start off by thanking Ricky , Joe and Chip for the trips to Columbia to help push threw the legislation for the December trapping season. It took a lot of work by a lot of members making phone calls to politicians to get the law changed and we should be proud of ourselves to have this new season. We also need to understand it can be lost again. I ‘d like to ask all of you to enjoy the December season but remember we will be sharing the field with a lot more outdoors man in December than we do in January and February. Trap responsibly , ethically and communicate with the land owner to find out if other outdoors man are using the land you will be trapping. The December season will be a great time to introduce new trappers to the sport so take someone new along this season.

Volunteers are needed. I’m working a lot of overtime and my weekends are tied up with work. I would like to ask for a few members to volunteer to work the National Hunting and Fishing day at the Oconnee World of Energy. I have not seen a date as of yet but that day usually falls towards the end of September. Call me if you can help. We need members that are willing to work when we have the Sportsman Classic and other similar events across the state. The SCTA is held together by a small group of folks whom are simply not always able to work every date. Please contact Ricky or myself if you can help.

The Convention is November 6th at Little Mountain.Little Mountain is exit 85 off of I 26. We need volunteers to help at the convention. We need someone to line up trapping demonstrations. Ricky will be running an organized youth completion of some sort. We need someone to volunteer to cook. I am volunteering Ray for the auction. The convention is a fun day but going into to it with several folks helping out is important. Please call Ricky or myself if you can help.

When the S1294 legislation got legs and started moving this spring Ricky and I struggled to contact as many members as possible to call their legislators. We simply do not have enough phone numbers and member information. I am going to make a blank form which will ask for your name , home & cell numbers and the county you live in. Please see me at the convention and know in advance I’ll ask for the information from you. This list is for internal use only. The calls we were able to get made to Columbia made the difference in getting the law changed. We have to be better organized the next time and I think this will help.

Well summer is grinding on; it is dry and school is about to start back. Hunting seasons are just around the corner. Please take the time to enjoy the outdoors, remember all the gun safety rules and share our sport.

I hope to see you all on November 6th.

Thanks.

— Richard Whitfield
